The MG/ES macro-region is a dynamic infrastructural system. The railroad and port infrastructure supporting the mining-steel sector remodels the whole region space. It concentrates activities and population and at the same time evacuates intermediate and bordering areas. Connections between spatial dispersed elements, without continuity and relation with the territory.
The device mines - railroad - port is converted into a more complex and inclusive logistic network. The question, initially, was: how to transform a physical distance (Brazil-Asia) into an economic distance? Or: to compress space. The logistics revolutionized the maritime transport and the port system. The impacts of the new equation had spread around the world-wide economy, redefining the new steel plants geographic location, attracted to coastal regions.
Logistics modifies the nature and function of infrastructure. With modernization of transports and communications, recently privatized, the infrastructure segments became autonomous. Today each company installs its transportation devices or uses services. It is intermodal. Competition between the elements makes that each change in one of the components demands an adjustment in the whole device, rearticulating the operations
