The railroad companies have been recently privatized. The concessions favored the presence of customers, mining and steel companies, in the enterprises control. CVRD, controling diverse railroads, became the country biggest railroad operator. Other mining and steel companies also control railroads and ports.
EFVM (Vitória-Minas) belongs to CVRD. With 900 km, it integrates the mining region and attends to the steel companies and cellulose producers. It is essential to the whole production chain articulation. The Centro-Atlântica Railroad (FCA) is also controlled by CVRD. With 7.080 km, it covers an extensive area of the Brazilian territory. MRS Logistica is a trust formed by several mining and steel companies. With 1674 km, it links Minas Gerais to the ports of Santos and Sepetiba.
Investments have been made in the tracings rectification and construction of new stretches, to increase the trains speed. The railroad system is detached from the cities: variants skipping urban areas are constructed, branches and stations are disactivated, occupations located in the tracks edges removed. The railroad device gains autonomy in relation to geography. The elimination of strangling points leads to an acceleration of the territory.
