The Steel Valley is an urban set developed with the implantation of Acesita and Usiminas steel projects, comprehending the counties of Timóteo, Coronel Fabriciano and Ipatinga. With tendency to expansion, incorporating the districts of Mesquita and Belo Oriente.

Here the relationship between city and the environment is dictated by the logic of industrial production: the agricultural spaces are taken by the eucalyptus plantation, while the urban areas are produced according to the industrial needs. In the quarters planned by corporations, the spaces translate the existing hierarchy within the plants. The remain of the cities grew expontaneously, through the few areas allowed by the topography, the corporate land property and real estate interests.

Although there is a process of consolidation of an unique cornubation, space discontinuities remain in the urban fabric. This fragmentation is due specially to the land concentration by reforestation, establishing the sprayout and interrupted form of urban spaces. In the reforestation areas, the companies do not create cities any more, promoting instead an informal urbanism based in small villages articulated by transportation systems.
