The city of Belo Horizonte is approached here, initially, from two critical situations, produced by processes directly related with the MG/ES system. The first one consists in the metropolitan expansion toward South direction _ as in the city limits with Nova Lima . Here there are mines inside the urban perimeter, examples of great urban fabric rupture and landscape disruption.
Mineral exploitation areas that determine the drawing of the whole metropolis south region. In this region, mineral extraction is going through great transformations, with the deactivation of old mines, new implantations and construction of new logistic devices, as railroad branches.
In this process, a new paradigm of relationship between mining and the urban condition is configured. In contrast with what occurs in the previous extraction operations, made in attrition with the cities, here the disactivated mines are converted into real estate projects _ residential and corporate condominiums _ and new mines implantations search to keep environmental preservation standards.
