The states of Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo are among the biggest energy consuming in the country. This indicator results from a great industrial concentration with high energy consumption, as the complexes of mining, steel and cellulose production. CVRD, the biggest electric energy consumer company in the country, invest in energy generation. The company participates in the construction of diverse hydroelectric plants, among which Aimorés, in the river Doce, comprehending areas of Aimorés, Itueta and Resplendor districts.
Aimorés hydroelectric plant will supply energy specially to the Steel Valley, that has a high demand because its steel industries. Its construction demanded to bar the river waters, flooding lands of urban housing and agricultural activities. The city of Itueta, six thousand inhabitants, is being relocated into a neighboring area, where new houses are being build. Protests had occurred, due to the small dimension (26 m2) of the units destined to the renters.
